Ashton Shumpert may very well get to get back on the field this week at Senatobia. The Itawamba AHS 4-star ATH has missed the season’s first three games and is anxious to hit – and be hit.
He was able to put pads on for the first time a week ago, the first time since the first two days of two-a-days. He hasn’t had contact since the spring.
” I’m ready to hit,” he smiles.
I asked him if he was ready to hit or be hit. “Both,” he said.
Shumpert’s traveling plans were set to begin in week two of the college football season. He was all set to watch Auburn at Mississippi State, a game MSU handled 28-10.
He said he plans to be in Oxford this weekend as No. 14 Texas (2-0) visits the 2-0 Rebels.
He talked with Vanderbilt recruiter Derham Cato, one of his 10 chasers. The Commodores impressed him in their season-opening loss to South Carolina, a game he felt like they should have won.

“I’d have to say Pittsburgh (NFL) because of their defense. Baseball it would have to be the Yankees and NBA the Heat.”
Shumpert on the somewhat surprising 3-0 Indians, who have thus far played without him.
“I’m not surprised. We’ve got a real good team. The skill players are good. The d-line and and o-line are real big and fast, so I’m not surprised.”
