Bruce coach James Ray is a realist. He knows that if Baldwyn beats his Trojans Friday, the Bearcats will win Division 1-2A. Baldwyn has already beaten the two other playoff teams, Calhoun City and Okolona.
“Not to say that Walnut and Hatley won’t play those last two, but for all intents and purposes. On the other, it wouldn’t be for us. We still have to play Okolona and Calhoun City.”
To beat the Bearcats…
“We have to play our game. We’ve done that but against two really good teams (losses to Water Valley and Houston), we didn’t take care of the football. We’ve got to do that in this game and the rest of the year.”
“There will be series where we’ve got to punt and play great defense and field postion.”
Quelling the hype…
“We’re trying as coaches but I do think a lot of the hype was a reason we weren’t focused in some games like against Water Valley and Houston. It’s taught us lessons and if we’ve learned those lessons, I’ll take those two losses. If not, we need to fix the mistakes and we’re running out of time to fix them.”
