Talked with Belmont coach Kerry Moody Kerry Moody and Booneville coach Mike Mattox today for a Tuesday story on their Friday game. The game could either hand Booneville the Division 1-3A title or Belmont could murk up the standings. You can read that tomorrow but here are a few quotes that didn’t make the paper.
Belmont coach Kerry Moody
“It’s going to be a tough ballgame. They’re always well-coached and well prepared.”
“The thing about Booneville, they don’t hurt themselves. They play good sound football, hard-nosed defense and if they catch you out of position defensively, they’ll hurt you. We’re going to have to play good defense, stay at home. (Zeus) Rogers, he’s very elusive and fast. We have to contain him and the quarterback not only throws it well, he runs it as well. He’s a dual threat.”
Booneville coach Mike Mattox
“They’re going to get after us. It’s an old 2A rivalry. They’re well-coached. The quarterback does a great job. The fullback is a real good runner and the tailback out of the Wing T does a real good. You can’t just key on one person. They’re very sound defensively. They tackle people and what impresses me, they throw them down. They tackle you. You don’t break many.”
