Newton coach praises Corinth pitcher

Pitchers don’t usually get a lot of credit in slow-pitch softball but Newton County coach Justin Chaney praised Corinth senior Elizabeth Williams Saturday.

Williams and the Lady Warriors beat the defending champions in the Class 4A championship series.

Williams snagged a pair of hard-hit line drives back to her and and sat down 10 of the last 11 hitters in the deciding Game 3. The defense gave up seven hits in the game and stranded key runners with a 3-1 lead.

“They’ve got one of the better slow-pitch pitchers in the state,” Chaney said. “People don’t have enough appreciation for a pitcher in slow-pitch. She does a tremendous job for them and makes their life as defenders easier.”
