McClain coach Eleazarus Greenleaf said Tuesday night he likes Booneville to win Class 3A.
McClain lost 70-58 at Booneville in the North State opener Tuesday as Booneville’s Kenny Paul Geno scored 33 points and had 20 rebounds.
McClain played their 1-3-1 but shadowed Geno in the second half. Geno had 19 in the second half.
“In the second half, we basically tried to stop Geno from getting offensive putbacks and running the floor,” Greenleaf said. “He can shoot it. He crashes the boards hard. He’s a hard working player. He works hard at everything he does.”
McClain (20-6) was upset in its division torunament and fell to a 4-seed. Greenleaf likes Booneville’s chances to bring home a gold ball. The Blue Devils (25-4) won it all two years ago.
“Probably Booneville. Booneville’s tough, they play good defense, they run the floor, they’re patient. I think them and Cleveland East Side would be a good matchup,” Greenleaf said.
Booneville and East Side would have to meet in the North semifinals.
